Frederick's Journey, A Fourth Grade History Unit Featuring Book Illustrated by SCSD Alumnus London Ladd
The social Studies department is proud to feature a unit created this year that highlights the achievements of African Americans in the Central New York area and at the same time promoting literacy within the content area. The unit highlights the life of famous abolitionist Frederick Douglas and his fight for the civil rights of African Americans within the abolitionist period prior to the Civil War and into the Reconstruction period. The tradebook featured called Frederick's Journey has been illustrated by SCSD alumnus London Ladd. This unit is a great way to embed a celebration of African American heritage, build rich content knowledge, enhance reading skills and improve writing practice across the content area.
